I am committed to supporting the development of English teaching colleagues from a diverse range of backgrounds, in particular those who work in less privileged contexts. With this in mind, alongside my freelance work, I try to participate regularly in the voluntary sector.
I have long been an active and committed member of IATEFL, and in 2017 was kindly invited to take up a coordinator position on the committee of the IATEFL Global Issues Special Interest Group. My current role involves promoting global issues within teacher education.
Last year, I joined the team of teacher-storytellers on the Hands Up Project, to be beamed each week by video-conferencing to an after-school club in Jabalya Refugee Camp, Gaza. Through the IATEFL Global Issues SIG WhatsApp Partner Project I also worked remotely with a number of teachers in Senegal to support them in their professional development. Find out more about the projects I have set up in the past in Egypt and Libya, to mentor local teachers.
